i’m thru with blue since i met you, you showed my how to dance when it rained.

This is my favourite memory of our friendship.

B was working on a film and there was a ’singing in the shower’ scene in which they wanted her to be singing an old jazz standard, i think a chet baker tune, but they couldn’t clear it. So she called me and asked me if i could whip up something for her to sing that sounded old and standard-y.

I was working on my album, and was in the studio, so i told her to give me a day or 2 and i would come up with something, but 2 hours later she called me back giggly and excited saying that she had come up with an idea herself and nervously asked if she could sing it for me.

what she had come up with was so beautiful, complex and gorgeous, and perfect (and she had no idea of her brilliance) – i made her call my answering machine with me on 3 way and sing it for me again so i could have a recording of it. She possessed one of my favourite voices, she really was a stellar singer – she loved to sing and she was incredibly humble about it.   I loved this little ditty so much, that to this day it is my vocal warm up before every single session, and every live sound check. Not only that, but when people who have never heard me sing ask me to sing to them, i get right up in their ears all close and this is the song i always choose to impress them with.

I don’t really know what else to say right now, and i most likely won’t say more because i’d like to keep everything else to myself, but i just wanted to share a piece of her beauty, her in a moment of freedom, super joyful and giddy, doing what she truly loved to do.

I love you Brittany. “Heaven shine on us above, we’re laughin’ all the way, no care’s to what they say.”

rest in peace baby girl.
